The Arts : Calligraphy

When someone says the word “calligraphy” out loud, the first image that comes to our mind is beautiful writing. Calligraphy has evolved a lot, right from being an ancient art form to being one of the most popular hobbies of children and adults alike. Therefore, calligraphy simply means beautiful writing that includes many styles, which can broadly be categorized into two main forms- Alphabetic writing and Pictographic writing. Calligraphy is often described as using one’s creative skills and expressing thoughts by translating them into beautiful writing styles. Calligraphy is an art form, which ranges from Chinese scripts to the more modernized western calligraphy.

Calligraphy is derived from the Greek words “kallos” or beauty and “graphe”, which obviously means writing.

Apart from professional calligraphists offering calligraphy classes in your locality, there are hundreds of online classes that you can sign up for on the Internet and the best part is that many are available for free. You can easily find out about the nearest calligraphy workshop centers in your locality by conducting a simple search on the Internet. If you want to be taught by the best, you can easily sign up for a seminar with an expert. The workshops include the foundation courses to the most advanced levels, such as polyrhythmic calligraphy, layered calligraphy, etc. Learning the art of calligraphy needs a bit of patience. The feeling that others get on receiving your holiday cards and your own satisfaction is a visual treat for the eyes.

Good Luck and Have Fun!
